Symptoms of an allergic reaction can include:
- A runny nose or sneezing.
- Pain or tenderness around your cheeks, eyes or forehead.
- Coughing, wheezing or breathlessness.
- Itchy skin or a raised rash (hives)
- Diarrhoea.
- Feeling or being sick.
- Swollen eyes, lips, mouth or throat.
Allergies occur at the same time every year and last as long as the allergen is in the air (usually 2-3 weeks per allergen).
Allergies cause itching of the nose and eyes along with other nasal symptoms. Colds last about one week and have less itching of the nose and eyes.
Seasonal allergies can do more than just cause a runny nose or cough—when left untreated, they can lead to drowsiness and poor concentration, too. Allergy fatigue is the result of your body working hard to fight off a foreign invader.
